Hi, I’m Natalia Alexander and I’m the cook, writer, and photographer for The Greek Glutton. Nice to meet you!
I am an American who had the good fortune of living in Athens, Greece for 2 years when I was in high school and I have been in love with the country ever since. I like Greece and Greek people for their way of life, their values, their beautiful country, and most of all, the delicious food and the wonderful relationship Greeks have with food. Food is more than just fuel – it’s a gateway to a healthier life and it’s a way for people, friends, and family to get together and share experiences.
I started food blogging in 2012 because I felt I was in a rut. I was in college and was supposed to be having the time of my life, but I was having a lot of trouble finding meaningful and fulfilling activities and hobbies. When I thought to myself “what do I love?” and the answers were Greece and food, the idea to start a Greek food blog came naturally.
My approach to cooking is one that I find pretty basic: I want to add a little something here and a little something there to create something people will want to eat, and I want to make meals that I can enjoy with my loved ones. My approach to seasonings and garlic is “more is better” and I probably use way more of each in my recipes that I indicate you should in the instructions. So if you read my blog, then be adventurous: add more flavor!
Although not all of my recipes are 100% healthy, as some are more indulgent than they are good for you, I actively try to create recipes that follow the principles of the Mediterranean Diet. It is about a lifestyle centered around fruits, vegetables, grains, herbs, spices, and seafood. The main source of fat in many Mediterranean diets is olive oil, and drinking red wine is actually encouraged. Most importantly,it’s about living well and living with quality: slowing down and enjoying life’s little pleasures.
And speaking of pleasures, if you’d like to know a bit more about me, some of my favorite things include: travel, going to the Greek islands and the beach, eating cheeseburgers (in moderation), any type of ice cream I can get my hands on (again, in moderation), electronic dance music, and my adorable maltipoo Fudge (who unfortunately for me lives with my mom so I don’t get to see him as often as I would like!)
I’ve you’d like to discuss partnerships with me for sponsored posts, brand ambassadorship, food photography, recipe development, etc I’d be more than happy to work with you as long as your request fits the theme and values of this blog! If you’d like to work with me, please email me at email@example.com.
I have worked and collaborated with brands such as: Chobani, Citröen, and Cocozia.
I currently reside in Switzerland, but I also have ties to:
Athens – Philadelphia – New York – Washington, DC – London – Prague – and Vilnius, Lithuania.
I move around pretty often so I’m never in one place for too long! Maybe I’ll see you on my travels! Thanks for reading!
